French crystal carafe with 6 wine glasses “Legras”

Definition.

Very nice carafe with 6 matching wine glasses, made in the middle of the 19th century.

The set is made of mouth-blown crystal.

At the bottom of the glasses and the carafe you can still see the cut of the blowpipe. After blowing the objects, enamel flowers and figures were applied by hand.

No two glasses are exactly the same in size and weight.

Crystal from the 19th century is not as pure as the crystal we know today.

The wine glasses will also be used more as port glasses.

Wine in the 19th century was a luxury product, so those who could afford wine wanted to see their glasses filled to the brim as a sign of abundance and wealth.

Given its age, a small trace of wear may be present, as well as glass threads, air bubbles and imperfections are completely normal for handmade antique glassware.
