8 Antique Gouda Holland bowls "Juliette"
8 Antique Gouda Holland bowls "Juliette"
Definition.
These 8 rare beautiful bowls were made in the beginning of the 20th century in the Netherlands.
All bowls are nicely marked at the bottom.
The bowls are made of ceramic and hand-painted.
They are beautifully decorated with marigolds.
The décor used here is called "Juliette".
Juliette is named after the youngest daughter of factory director Willy Hoyng. Juliette was actually just called Tuut in her family, but that probably wasn't fancy enough for a crockery.
Juliette Frederique (Tuut) Hoyng , born on 15-07-1915 in Gouda.
4 bowls are in good condition, 4 others have damage such as chip off, crack or even 1 has been completely put back together with metal staples.
Given its age, there may be a trace of use, as well as mini cracks in the glaze may occur with antique ceramics.
NV Plateelbakkerij
Gouda has a long history of pottery, pots, pipes and vases. NV Plateelbakkerij Zuid Holland is one of the largest producers of the famous Gouda Pottery in the early 20th century. The factory was known as the N.V. Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland (1898-1965) in Gouda. Abbreviated Plazuid.
The floral decoration on the tableware is derived from the very expensive, wafer-thin and extremely detailed painted eggshell porcelain. In 1902, Queen Mother Emma gave Queen Wilhelmina, a less fragile 300-piece dinner set with the same decoration. Juliette is its thick-walled and simplified sister, intended for a wide audience. It was a success, Juliette was sold the most and remained in mass production until 1924. But because it was hand-painted, it remained expensive and could certainly not be found in every household, such as Mosa's tableware.
